Within a stone’s throw of the Thames, this project comprises the full refurbishment and extension of a19th Century cottage. Working on a very compact site, the project creates a series of visual and social connections diagonally internally and externally through the three levels of the site. A lower and an upper courtyard provide a split-level external space, whilst a tantalising view toward the Thames from the new upper level, is captured through a glazed former dormer. The project seeks to balance new and old, the original brick of the cottage retained and juxtaposed the new oak joinery, with natural light throughout.
