Light from above_ 2011

This former light industrial warehouse was refurbished into a new flexible space for Al-duroosul Muthmira, an Islamic youth activity group. Day lighting in the space was dramatically enhanced through the introduction of a new roof light and glazed atrium, and using metallic paints to maximise the light reflected into the back of the space. As a part of the design process we used day-lighting simulation software to understand how best to proportion and position the roof lights to achieve the best daylight, without the space becoming too hot during summer.
